Fun things to do in and around New BEL Road, IISC and Ramaiah in Bangalore!

RMV is one of the older and more well organised parts of Bangalore. The benefits of staying in this area are many like lesser traffic, less unplanned development, lesser noise pollution, more spacious roads, more trees. And all this equals more greenery, better quality of air and lesser traffic.
But there’s also a downside: where do we hang out?
While we don’t have as many places to chill at as the other part of town, here we list a few interesting places to visit and have a good time in and around Sanctum Suites BEL Road hotel in Bangalore.

Restaurants and Cafes

Coffee Day - 80 ft road, BEL Road
Chinese Cuisine: Hunan, Chung Wah, Beijing Bites
Continental: Café Rossini
American Fast Food: Truffles , KFC, Mcdonalds
Andhra Food: Nandini, Nandhana Palace

Street Food around New BEL Road

Young professionals and students living in and around the Ramaiah group of institutions and IISC Bangalore have several options to choose from! There are many restaurants and bars in the area that serve delicious food at very affordable prices. Our reccomendations:

Eggstacy – Famous for its rolls, parathas and noodles!

Roadside momos (dumplings): Momo is a dish that originates from North-East India. It is now a popular street food item in most Indian cities. There are several roadside vendors in the area who sell these hot and incredibly tasty vegetable and chicken dumplings. Whether you like them steamed or fried depends on you! We recommend the vegetable steamed momo - perfectly healthy and tasty!

Paratha Plaza– This fast food restaurant has really got their parathas right! Authentic North Indian taste and a huge variety to choose from. Great for a quick bite on Sanjaynagar main road.

Kargreens – This cafe has an airy terrace seating area with good snacks and sheesha. Popular among college students from Ramaiah. The cold coffee here is really good!

South Indian food in Malleshwaram

Malleshwaram is even older than the RMV area, probably the oldest area of Bangalore after Jayanagar. This neighbourhood used to be quiet and green, with plenty of local restaurants serving traditional South Indian cuisine. While the quietude and green cover is fast depleting, it still remains a food lover’s paradise.

Veena Stores – A line my good friend never fails to repeat, and I quote – “This place is an institution”. Housed in all of 100 square feet of space on 15th Cross Malleshwaram, this hugely popular joint serves the best idli and vada in town. Steaming hot and served with extra coconut chutney, the idli literally melts in the mouth. Patrons also swear by the khara bath, filter coffee and badam milk. If you’re a foodie, please don’t leave Bangalore without trying the food at Veena stores!

New Krishna Bhavan
Located in Malleshwaram, opposite Mantri Square Mall, this south Indian restaurant is perfect for the authentic South Indian fast food experience. Stand and eat or grab a table if it's available - the dosas are to die for and they have a wide variety of them. Our recommendations being: Plain/Masala or the Set Dosa, Akki Roti and plain idli. They serve good strong filter coffee and bisi bele baath as well.

Watering Holes - Bars and Pubs

Gilly’s Restobar – Very popular among younger folk, this restaurant is located on the top 2 floors of a building right next to the MS Ramaiah Junction. They have karaoke on some nights with and a live band on others. Decent ambience and reasonably priced drinks.

High Ultra Lounge - This bar located on the top floor of the World Trade Center inside the Brigade Gateway campus in Yeshwanthpur. You can enjoy stunning views of Bengaluru city and a great breeze. It’s a bit pricey, but worth the experience.

Chin Lung Resto-Bar, New BEL Rd
Popular joint for drinks and finger food at BEL Road. They serve a good range of beers and cocktails and a fun ambience, with outdoor seating as well. Recommended for those looking for a lively bar which is not too expensive.

Plan B – This restobar is famous for it's chicken wings. Walking distance if you’re staying around BEL Road, and light on the pocket. Ask for a table on the top floor!

Ice Creams

Corner House - An old Bangalore favourite for ice creams and desserts.
Milano - 100% fresh gelato ice creams and authentic Italian fare served in an airy heritage building with white interiors.
